ONE KANO AGENDA WARNS PENGASSAN AND NUPENG
The One Kano Agenda Group (Our Mission Kano) has issued a strong warning to the leadership of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) and the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) over their recent actions concerning Nigeria’s oil and energy sector.
In a statement made available to the press in Kano, the group expressed deep concern about what it described as the “coordinated attempt” by the two labour unions to influence national economic policies in favor of certain corporate interests — particularly those affecting the Dangote Oil Refinery and related energy projects.
According to the report sent from Kano by Yusuf Bala for Eagle24 TV, the One Kano Agenda emphasized that the nation’s economy should not be held hostage by a few groups or individuals seeking compensation or undue advantage under the guise of labour activism. The group maintained that while organized labour plays an important role in defending workers’ rights, it must not cross the line into activities that could destabilize Nigeria’s fragile economic recovery.
“We are calling on PENGASSAN and NUPENG to place the national interest above all else,” the statement read. “Nigeria is at a critical stage where unity, productivity, and economic cooperation are more important than ever. Any move that appears to sabotage the progress of indigenous industries or threaten our national economy will be strongly resisted.”
The One Kano Agenda also reaffirmed its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and industrial harmony, urging all stakeholders in the oil and gas sector to engage in constructive dialogue rather than confrontation.
Furthermore, the group called on the Federal Government and relevant regulatory bodies to monitor the ongoing situation closely to ensure that no form of undue pressure or manipulation is allowed to undermine national interests or discourage private sector investment.
The statement concluded with a reminder that One Kano Agenda stands for fairness, unity, and sustainable development, adding that Nigeria’s prosperity depends on cooperation, not conflict.
